Vaitheeswaran koil temple

Vaitheeswaran Temple is located in Tamil Nadu, India. It is dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. It is one of the nine Navagraha Temples and the planet Mars (Angaraka) is also worshipped here. Believed to be the site of the curing of Angaraka of leprosy, this site is known for its Naadi astrologers. Vaitheeswaran Koil is approximately 22 kilometers from Chidambaram, 110 kilometers from Thanjavur and 16 km from Mayiladuthurai. There are also a number of trains to Mayiladuthurai from Mysore, Chennai, Nagore, Tiruchirapalli, Rameshwaram. Few passenger trains stop at Sirkali. One can also reach the place by road and public transport. There are lots of government and private buses every 5 minutes from Mayiladuthurai and Chidambaram to Vaitheeswaran temple. The approximate cost of travel from Chidambaram to Vaitheeswaran temple is around 10Rs. The best route to reach this temple from Chennai would be to take the East Coast Road and go via pondicherry, cuddalore, Chidambaram, Sirkazhi, Vaitheeswaran. The approximate distance would be 230km. From Bengaluru, the best route would be via Hosur, Krishnagiri, Thiruvanaamalai, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Chidambaram, Sirkali, Vaitheeswaran and will be around 400 km.

It is believed that a bath in the holy waters of the Siddhamirtham tank within the temple complex will cure all diseases. But currently people are contaminating the dam by using soap and shampoo while taking bath. Recently the authorities have banned the use of soap and shampoo, but one can enjoy a normal bath in the tank. Also it is a belief that dissolving "holy jaggery" (tamil:vellam) in the water will cure one of skin diseases.vaitheeswaran_koil temple
